Why am I hungry two hours after eating breakfast? This is a loaded question which probably needs a bit more digging into before being able to truly answer. But if you are like most individuals I am guessing that you grabbing something quick on the way out the door or on your way into the office. Some "to go" breakfast items might include any of the following: a bowl of cereal, fruit, toast, a bagel, waffles, a muffin, oatmeal, pastry, yogurt. If this is the case, most of these items will help you wake up and start that metabolism (great) but most won't help you stay full too long. The problem is many of these go-to items contain simple carbohydrates that break down quickly, especially if choosing the non-whole grain options, and leave us hungry by mid-morning. To help, look for the whole grain cereals and breads (they contain complex carbs that take longer to break down) and think about adding some protein [a egg, piece of turkey bacon, greek yogurt, nuts or granola] and fiber to your meal which will help you feel fuller longer and ward off those mid-morning cravings.
